ALLERGY AND COMMON ALLERGY TRIGGERS

ALLERGY
Allergy is your body's reaction to a normally harmless substance(s) called allergens. Yes, these substances are harmless to your body but your body has become hypersensitive to them.
This means that when you come in contact with them, your body evokes serious immune responses to them so as to eliminate them.

This developes over time as exposures are frequent and because of the severity of the immune response on  these substances, your systems can be implicated. Allergic reactions can as well be hereditary. This means that it can be inherited and can run in families.

In a normal allergy condition, you react by itching, swelling on the area of contact, runny nose, sneezing, peeling of skin and flaking

COMMON ALLERGENS IN OUR ENVIRONMENT ARE:
1- POLLEN
2- DANDER
3- MOLD
4- DUST MITES
5- DRUGS
6- FOOD
5- INSECT STINGS
6- LATEX
7- HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND COSMETICS LIKE SOAPS, DETERGENT, PERFUMES, BODY SPRAYS AND CREAMS.

POLLEN
Pollen is a powdery substance produced by plants, used to fertilize other plants. Like sperm cells, it's a gametocyte but because it can't easily be seen with the naked eye, it's a microgametocyte. However when clustered or in masses, it maybe seen with the naked eye.

ANIMAL DANDER
Animal dander are like dandruff in humans but are smaller and even microscopic. They are flecks of skin shed by animals with feathers and fur like cats, dogs, birds and even rodents. As your pets scratches, they shed these off into the air.

MOLD
Mold is a fungus that release spores in the air. They are everywhere and cannot be eliminated from the environment. For them to reproduce, they  release tiny spores into the air which eventually land. If these spores come in contact with moisture, they begin to grow. They are normally harmless but if you are hypersensitive to them, allergic reactions to them will develop. EVERY BUILDING AND ENVIRONMENT IN THE WORLD HAS MOLDS IN THEM.

DUST MITES
Mites are like ticks but smaller and almost invisible. They are common in our environment. Dust mites are the ones that dwell in dust.

DRUGS
Common drugs that cause allergy are penicillin and related antibiotics, sulfa drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like ibuprofen and aspirin, anticonvulsants and chemotherapy drugs. Reactions to some drugs might as well be idiosyncratic.

LATEX
Examples of latex are gloves and condoms. Allergic reactions to condoms can be idiosyncratic. It depends on the substance used in manufacturing these latex.

INSECT STING
You might get stung by an insect and experience swelling in that area, redness and pain. These can last for a brief period of time but in some people it can develop to a serious complication called anaphylaxis

Allergic reactions to certain food, household items and cosmetic products are very much common. It all depends on the ingredients used in making them.
